General Travel Tips

  • To keep kids occupied, bring toys to entertain them. Coloring books and crayons, activity sheets, books, etc.
  • Being out in the sun, sweating, drinking cocktails and sightseeing will naturally dehydrate you, so make sure you stay hydrated.
  • When packing your suitcase, roll your clothes to save space and avoid wrinkles.
  • Stick a dryer sheet in your suitcase with your clothes to keep them smelling fresh.
  • Buy a portable phone charger for when you're not near a wall plug.
  • If you're visiting a water park, pool or the beach, put your phone in a plastic bag to prevent it from getting wet.
  • Purchase travel insurance to cover you for things that may go wrong while traveling.
  • Have neighbors keep an eye on your house while you're away.
  • Look for hotels and vacations that include value.
  • Cruises include your accommodations, food and activities for children while onboard.
  • Seek hotels that include free Wi-Fi and/or breakfast. Find a hotel with a pool or kid's activities so entertainment will be included in the cost.
  • Take advantage of discounts attraction tickets through your local AAA Office.

Tips for Traveling by Car

  • Have your car serviced and checked out before you hit the road.
  • Pack a basic roadside emergency kit including a flashlight, batteries, jumper cables, fuses that fit your car, tools, a tire jack, and road flares.
  • Use the AAA acclaimed, interactive trip planning tool to create instant maps, routings, and narrative directions. Add points of interest, road construction, rest areas, traffic, and more to make your road trip smooth and hassle-free.
  • Make sure you have AAA TourBook® guides with travel information about AAA Approved® hotels and restaurants, as well as attractions and points-of-interest for the destinations you are visiting.
  • Save money by packing a cooler with drinks and snacks.
  • Bring with pillows, blankets and comfort items for en route napping.

Tips for Traveling by Air

  • Save money on your vacation by bundling hotel, air, car and activities.
  • If possible avoid traveling on the weekend.  Try to fly on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. The airport is likely to be less busy, and you might even save some money on your flight. You will also typically save on hotel rooms and car rentals when vacationing during the week.
  • Pack one extra change of clothes for each person in their carry-on bag. Millions of pieces of luggage are lost or delayed/misplaced every year. If your bag is one of them, having a set of clothes to change into while you are waiting for your luggage to be found is a lifesaver.
  • Make two photocopies of all travel documents in case of emergency. Leave one copy with a trusted friend or relative at home and carry the other separately from your documents in case of loss or theft. Keep the passport locked up with other valuables while touring, but always carry some form of I.D.
