Chairman's Cruise The Galapagos Islands 7/19/2019
Join your hosts, AAA Southern Pennsylvania’s Chairman & CEO, Leon Barber, & his wife, Cheryl, in exploring one of the most beautiful & unique destinations in the world, the Galapagos Islands, on Celebrity Cruises newest ship, the Celebrity Flora.
DESIGNED WITH DESTINATION IN MIND
The natural beauty of the islands, the diversity and uniqueness of the species that it harbors earned this archipelago the reputation of being a living laboratory of evolutionary processes still in progress. The region made room for the development of a large number of flora and fauna that do not exist anywhere else in the world, making the Galapagos a very unique place of global importance for the common heritage of humanity.
Featuring Celebrity’s signature outward-facing design, Celebrity Flora virtually erases boundaries and brings this typically remote destination closer to guests. Educational, research-based programming give travelers an opportunity to continue learning about the wildlife-rich Galapagos Islands.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & INNOVATION
Celebrity Flora is one of the most energy-efficient ships in its class, with a 15 percent reduction of fuel consumption and equivalently fewer air emissions2, thanks to the introduction of an advanced propulsion system, hull configuration and specially designed diesel engines. Two more firsts in the Galapagos, Celebrity Flora’s dynamic positioning system allows the ship to stay in position without physically anchoring and damaging the sea floor, with zero speed stabilizers promising smooth sailing throughout.
Celebrity will reduce the need for plastics onboard by introducing in-room water filtration stations and by converting sea water and air conditioning condensation into pure, fresh water. Any materials that can be recycled, reused or donated will be as part of a strict waste management system.

On the first day of your journey, you’ll be greeted at the airport by a Celebrity Cruises® representative & transferred to the JW Marriott hotel. Enjoy free time to relax & settle in.
During your guided tour of the capital of Ecuador, you’ll stand on the equatorial line at the Middle of the World Park & Museum, & marvel at the monastery of San Francisco & la Compañia Church.
During World War II, Baltra served as a U.S. military base protecting the Panama Canal from enemy attack. Now the cactus-strewn landscapes of Baltra are home to the region’s main airport & where you will meet the ship. Daphne is a satellite volcanic cone located north of Santa Cruz Island. The cliff shore of the island is home for sea lions, pelicans, blue-footed boobies, & tropical birds which can be observed during the circumnavigation of the island.
The beach at Gardner Bay, with it’s sparkling white sand, offers one of the best places for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing sea. Gardner Bay is also home to one of the most important colonies of sea lions in the archipelago, and is a nesting site for sea turtles. At Suarez Point, be greeted by a colony of sea lions upon arrival. The area is also home to nearly the entire world population of Waved Albatross.
Floreana’s brackish lagoon is often home to flamingos, stilts, & white-cheeked pintail ducks, & one of its beaches is a highly used nesting site for sea turtles. The Bahia Post Office is home to the post office barrel created by whalers in about 1793, where visitors leave their mails. The tradition continues today, as visitors leave postcards in the barrel & sort through left mail to deliver at home.
Along Isabella’s beautiful rocky shore, a field of hardened black lava flows is pockmarked by shallow pools, which are home to shore birds & flamingos. The mangrove-lined shore also provides a chance to see marine iguanas, sea turtles, stingrays, sharks, penguins, & the flightless cormorant.
Along with its extraordinary black lava rocks, Espinoza point hosts the largest colony of marine iguanas in the archipelago. The half-collapsed remains of an ancient volcano make for a spectacular setting at Vicente Roca Point.
South Plaza was born of upheaval, uplifted during a geologic event. This low-lying landscape is covered with colorful saltbush, scrub, & giant prickly catcus. Dragon Hill, or “Cerro Dragon,” is named after its population of land iguanas. The site offers a beautiful view of the landscape & two small brackish lagoons where flamingos & other shore birds occasionally feed.
Puerto Ayora is home to the National Park Service tortoise-breeding center & the Charles Darwin Research Station. You will be able to visit the breeding center & walk through the Research Station. In addition, you will have an exclusive opportunity to participate in the Scalesia reforestation project.
